I am a writer and editor in Washington, D.C. As a journalist, I report about arts, history, culture and the environment for magazines, newspapers, websites and radio stations. I also write and do research for documentary films and produce publications and proposals for nonprofits and businesses. My recent big project was writing and editing content for a new National Park Service website and mobile app about Chesapeake Bay history. I also continue to do writing and research for City Projects, a Los Angeles-based film company whose documentaries about identity, politics and changing demographics air on PBS.

My work has been featured in Smithsonian magazine/Smithsonian.com, The Washington Post Magazine, The St. Louis Beacon, The Dallas Morning News, The Christian Science Monitor, Penn Arts & Sciences Magazine, Rails to Trails magazine, Albuquerque’s alt-weekly Alibi, and the now-defunct No Depression music magazine, among other publications.

Previously I was an associate editor at Current, the biweekly newspaper about public radio and television. I’ve also worked as a reporter for NPR affiliate WAMU-FM’s Bluegrass Country and screened calls for The Diane Rehm Show and The Kojo Nnamdi Show. I was a park ranger for NPS in Washington’s Rock Creek Park, where I created and edited the park’s community gardens newsletter. I’ve edited newsletters for several nonprofits, including the Journalism & Women Symposium and Americans for Indian Opportunity.

I have a B.A. in English from Bethel College (Kansas), an M.A. in literary and cultural studies from Carnegie Mellon University, and an M.A. from the Missouri School of Journalism.

I am registered as a woman-owned small business on the U.S. Federal Government’s Central Contractor Registration database, and I have a D-U-N-S number.
